Wheee, here we go with day 3 of Alt Summit! This was March 16th.
Breakfast was french toast, whipped cream and mascarpone. There were breakfast burritos but they were huge and I knew if I took one I'd never be able to finish it.
I wanted to go to an alcohol inks class but ended up going to How To Use TikTok & Instagram Reels to Generate Leads. It was interesting. It was taught by Keenya Kelly and my takeaways were~
- Creating content on TikTok is an amazing way to test your content, be more creative, reach a new audience and have insanely viral moments.
- Attention span of people is 8-10 seconds. At the 1-2 second mark, people are gone (can be)
- What's the goal of my video? B roll is where video is being filmed and I'm not directly talking to the camera.
- It's not about trying to say a lot in one video but focusing on ONE thing fast and effectively
More was talked about that I took notes on but I don't want to bore you with a lot of reading here.

Then I went to a workshop called The Social Shift: Own Your Audience with Constant Contact. I had wanted to support my new friend and roomie with her class titled, "Solo Talk - What Dreams are Made Of: Leveraging Your Own Inner Lizzie McGuire Voice for Success" but felt I needed to be in the Constant Contact class as I have been paying for an email platform for an embarrassingly long amount of time and have not utilized it.
My friend Nicole (on the right) who runs Craftcation, was leading the discussion along with a girl who works at Constant Contact.
My takeaways were ~
- Done is better than perfect
- Write emails people want to open. Put the same effort into email as you do social media
- Post daily & authentically (I am so guilty of not posting daily on any platform but Snapchat)
- Save pictures with alt-text (I'm not good at that when I upload directly from my phone vs. a computer)
- You don't own your audience when you are on social media. It's shaky ground
- Get people excited to join my email list. Reward with an exclusive discount, early access, a sneak peek... (this is where I STRUGGLE and probably one of the top reasons why I haven't started sending emails out nor have I been able to grow my email list beyond a couple of friends)
- Do giveaways, challenges, quizzes, printables, a coupon... (these were some good ideas to think on)
I also attended a solo talk called The Midlife Pivot: Creating a Job & a Life by Design on Social Media by Jen Polt. I think at this time slot I was not finding anything much I wanted to do and so I ended up in this room. I did gain some takeaways though which I will share below...
- Instead of saying "why me?" say "why not me?"
- When you make big moves you will end up doing it alone. That will tell you how bad you want it.
- You are not going to be for everyone. Stay true to who you are. Your niche is YOU.
I did head-shots with Justin Hackworth and while I waited my friend Darlene was volunteering. She is super fun to talk to and be around. I love her energy. She lives all the way in NY so Alt is the only time and place I have gotten to see her so far!
Lunch was amazing and I was so hungry. The meats, veggies, salad, bean dip, rice...everything tasted awesome and I wish I hadn't felt so rushed at lunch to eat and get to my next class but yet again, I got to talking and getting to know the ladies at my table and they turned out to be really cool.
A crafty watercolor class I took. I actually liked how mine turned out. Peep my IG to see the result.
I made time to make a little flower bouquet. It was pretty fun to do and I learned how to fold a paper in to the shape of a cone. Will I remember? ehh..I hope so! Link to company
My friend Jen set a good example for me of taking pics with cool ladies she was meeting and I had to do the same - Sunday was the last full day of the conference! I grabbed a pic with Barbara and one with my new friend Lindsey who lives in Orange County.
The closing keynote was with a woman named Katie Porter who is running for governor of CA. It was interesting to sit and listen to. She made a lot of good points about things and I got to know a bit more about her and her life. Before Sunday, I had never heard of her before.

Next were attendee lead meet ups out by the pool. I went to a travel themed one first which I loved, it was cool to get to know some of the others at Alt interested in travel and I met a lady who lived in Utah as well! Got her one of my Utah Fun Things to Do business cards before I snuck off to find the Cricut & Silhouette discussion which I missed a lot of unfortunately but got to know the ladies that were left at the table.
Next up it was a quick bathroom break and peeking at all the business cards that were out on a counter near the door to the bathroom. My friend Jen started this since there was no wall to put them on like we have had in the past at the Saguaro hotel.
I'd say it was coming along nicely. I even put a few of my own cards out. I should have put out some Utah Fun Things to Do cards but sadly it didn't occur to me until just now as I am writing this blog post.
I was supposed to go to dinner with roomies but that didn't end up panning out so I found myself at Target searching for something to eat. I ended up getting a salad bowl, some pretzels and hummus. And got to shop and buy some cool things including a shirt for St. Patrick's Day since I was unaware that I would need that before I left.
