Alt Summit Recap ~ Day 2

At Alt, breakfast is from 8-9am. But as someone who doesn't really get up until around 8am, I had to push myself to get up around 7:30am so I could be out the door not too much after 8. The hotel I was at was a couple of miles from the Renaissance hotel and so I usually got to breakfast around 8:30 which isn't a lot of time considering I chatted a lot getting to know the ladies at my table each day.

Breakfast on Saturday morning was pretty delicious. The blueberry muffin did not taste good to me though sadly but the scrambled eggs (eating rich here), fruit and potatoes plus my favorite Naked Juice, filled me right up.

The founder of Alt, Gabby (seen pictured in the right up on the stage) interviewed Lisa Congdon as the opening keynote speaker. That was good and then it was time to take classes! There were many good ones to choose from. They were not always what I thought they'd end up being (esp. when I just went based off the title of the class and not the description) but I was where I needed to be I suppose you could say.

I thought my first workshop would be how to design stickers in Procreate so I came with my iPad charged and ready. Nope, it was just the steps on how to get your sticker to the Cricut machine after print and cut. A process I know extremely well. I did score a pack of assorted labels/stickers from Avery though since they were the sponsor for the class and got to sit by my friend Sapna so it wasn't a total downer. Afterwords, I took Kiki outside from some sun. The hotel was chilly!

Lunch was legit and I thought my stomach would be okay with the side salads but nope, not so much. A few hours later I was feeling it. But despite that, everything was delicious.

I came across a cute setup in one of the main hallways from Hue-inverse and they have dolls (1 out so far- Aura Rose) that will represent different values and colors. Not gonna lie, I thought the price was astronomical for my budget but I'm sure there were ladies there who didn't bat an eye. Overall, a cool concept and if you want to know more, click here.

Alison Faulker is someone I didn't know was going to be at Alt nor did I know I would end up in her class. I went because the title sounded interesting. Some of the takeaways I got were ~

3 SSSTEPS FOR SUCCESSSFUL SSSERIES

- why a series is so smart - talked about what a series is and how to do it
- get a schtick ~ You want to be the girl who ___
- be sincere. Only you can be YOU. Nothing replaces your lived experience.
- Your work is your art. The world needs your art. My best course of action is to bring my gifts

There are not too many craft classes offered at Alt and I do wish I'd taken more than the couple I found. But it was fun to learn how to make a pinch pot with Carter + Rose and the teacher of the class took mine back to Portland to fire it in her kiln I imagine and then it will be mailed to me. I am happy overall with how mine turned out.

Lorin set this up, you can find her IG account here

This was a big mural being painted and I participated by painting the purple areas around the green leaves (peep the photo on the left). Some areas I was not tall enough to reach. It was fun and I managed to stay clean with no specks of paint on my clothing. Plus Lorin had paint shirts so that helped too.

There was some down time before the gifting party. I was so mad at myself for standing in the wrong area of the hotel. By the time I found the line, it was very long. I am kicking myself for being in the wrong spot for so long without realizing it! I joined the line and shortly after my friend Jen found me and we stood together and chatted with the other attendees as we waited our turn to go in the gifting room.

Basically this room was set up with small businesses who offered their products on a first come, first serve basis. Instead of getting a swag back at registration with items you may or may not want or need, this is your chance to get what you really do want. Thus, the need to get in line earlier vs. later although I will say, almost everything I wanted that I saw shared on the Alt IG stories, was available by the time I got in the room so that was great. Every time I picked up an item from a table, I got a punch in my card. Once I acquired 9 gifts I wanted, that was it.

They did have churros and naan bread and hummus as a snack but that ended up being my dinner.

I'll do a separate post with the items I picked out at the gifting party linked to the business.
