Alt Summit Recap ~ Day 1

 

Alt Summit is a conference for entrepreneurs and creatives.  Ladies only - it was interesting to hardly hear no male voices for a few days. Being surrounded by inspiring women who run businesses, have products they sell, are coaches and more. I always feel like when I go that I am the only one who doesn't know what the heck I am doing with my life - everyone seems to put together. Despite that, the classes are always good, the crafts are fun and the networking is awesome.

The drive to Palm Springs was not what I expected. Windy, rainy, some snowflakes!? I thought all the bad weather was only happening Thursday but apparently Friday, March 14th, was affected as well. No worries, my car made the drive just fine and although I was a bit delayed for my volunteer shift, it all worked out.

Leaving the storm behind, for the most part, as I drove into Palm Springs. It was cool weather temperature wise. I did not even bring any shorts on this trip!

After my shift at the registration table (which I sadly did not get a photo of because the photographer's camera died but I sat in-between 2 really cool girls who were so fun to talk to), I got ready for the evening welcome party. Theme was sparkle and shine which I did not prepare for well. At all. Insert big sighs here. I looked in Vegas at 3 thrift stores plus the ASD show and found nothing. Nothing! I was gifted the butterfly earrings though from the ASD show in the selfie above and those were shiny & fun. Other than that..I did not fit in to the sea of sequins and glitter. Better luck next year with whatever theme is picked.

I feel so awkward when I have to do things by myself when it comes to large groups of people and sometimes smaller groups too (like bunco). I had 2 roomies for Alt this year, one named Jen and one named Hayley. I met Jen a couple Alt Summit conferences ago. Jen decided not to go to the party and Hayley I had not met yet so I am not sure if she went to the party or not but I think she did. I found random friends to hang out with (thanks Barbara!) and met new friends (Hi Lindsey!) and got to chat a bit with my friend Cassandra but it was so super loud so I was practically yelling to talk and it was really hard to hear everyone because of the noise level. Normally the party is held outside but because it was so chilly, it was moved inside.

Great setup though despite having to party inside on Friday evening.

Donut bar! I ate a maple round cake donut and it was so much. Felt a little uneasy in my stomach afterwards but managed to digest it all. Its been quite awhile since I've eaten a whole donut. I do love maple donuts best!

This table you could get a temporary tattoo of gold stars in various shapes. I didn't capture a pic of mine but it was cute.

At this table, you could reach into a bag and pull out a little bottle with a corked lid that was full of small stones. I got the Angelite. The translation meaning for this says ~

"The other name for Angelite is "Stone of Awareness" because it helps reach spiritual consciousness. Choose Angelite when you need help to find the true words for understanding yourself and move forward with positive energy inside. This stone drives away tension, anger, doubts and stress."

Some more food besides donuts, meet and cheese and crackers. I grabbed some crackers and cheese (as you can see from my plate there on the table)

Found a friend in line and made some new friends while they waited in line for drinks. They voted my shoe most comfortable 😂 This was actually my first time wearing these shoes and they indeed were so comfortable I wore them all day on Saturday.

Interesting difference. The moon on the left is what I took with my GS21 phone outside the Renaissance hotel, zoomed in all the way.

The moon on the right is the interesting rings that were happening when I got out of the Ralph's grocery store. I was not zoomed in all the way.

I was still a bit hungry after the welcome party but my attempts to go eat out for Pi Day were not successful so I ended up at Raising Canes where I got a piece of chicken, some fries & sauce and a piece of Texas toast. I was appalled at how small my piece of chicken was and at how expensive the kids meal has gotten. I ended up ordering off the al-la-cart menu for less than a kids meal. 😵
