London's Run

My roomie Devery signed up to do London's Run, a yearly marathon in honor of a girl (London) who passed away from cancer a few years ago. I saw it on her facebook and decided it looked cool , something new I'd never done before, so I signed up too. January 30th was the big day. I followed her and her daughter Lucie and her fiance' Dan out to Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek where it was taking place.

[early morning..around 6:15am - on a Saturday! Yikes!]

[pretty sunrise on the way to Queen Creek]

We are ready to go! We had to wait for some people doing a longer stretch to get a head start before us 2K people could go. It was cold too because the sun wasnt really out yet.

Finally it was our turn to start!

We did the 2 mile loop. Speed walked best we could due to the conditions off the road (somewhat muddy) and the amount of people on it. Towards the end we jogged/ran across the finish line. It was so cool & there were people on the sidelines cheering us on!

2 miles wasnt as hard as I thought! Maybe I will jog more next time instead of walk. It was super fun. Afterwards I went to breakfast with Devery, Lucie and their friend Desiree. Dan had to go to work. We ate at Paradise Bakery in Queen Creek and it was so good.

There is another marathon coming up on February 13th and Tony will be in town so maybe we'll sign up & do it together!

So, technically a "marathon" is 26.2 miles. All other runs are usually called by their length (e.g. 10K, 2 mile run, etc.). Just FYI.

But kudos to you for running 2 miles! Or was it a 2K? Either way, congrats! That's more than I've done in awhile...

Agh oh no! thats just how we ended up posing. Lucie is not my baby! lol.

Thanks Lindsay for the clarification. So 2K and 2 miles are different? They called our group "2K" but really it was just 2 miles. I am sort of confused. Anyways, its more than I've done in awhile too. I remember you used to run a lot on the mission!

Nice run! Usually when a k follows it means 1000... so a 2k would be 2000 meters which is 1.25 miles. In Cross Country, the races are 5k which is 5000 meters or 3.1 miles. Just FYI.

How fun! I love running races with a purpose. You should definitely do the next one with Tony! I'm glad you get to see him for Valentine's Day :-)
